Does an iPhone Sport App Enhance Enjoyment of the Game?

For years, fans attending sporting events could only allow themselves to be distracted by the game or match in front of them.  With the proliferation of countless smart phones and other technologies, fans around the world find themselves as entertained with the information on their phone as they are with the game in front of them.

While one would hope that fans at sporting events are still in fact watching the games, gadgets such as an iphone sport app can make the game more enjoyable.

While stadiums are apt to provide fans in attendance with even more information than they have in the past, there is only so much information a public address system can convey to tens of thousands of fans.  And that amount of information pales in comparison to what can be transmitted over an iphone sport app.

For example, baseball is the sport that likely produces more pieces of data than any other major professional sport.  The location and speed of every single pitch (of which there are hundreds in every game) is recorded and saved somewhere.  Additionally, crucial pitching decisions are often made on how well batters have performed in the past against certain pitchers.

This information would never be available to fans at the game unless they had an iphone sport app.  And knowing this information, while not absolutely vital to one’s enjoyment, would definitely enrich the fan’s experience by having at their fingertips access to pertinent information.

An iphone sport app can also lead to a deeper appreciation and understanding while in attendance at basketball games.  Often times the scoreboard at a basketball game at any level will provide points and fouls for individual players and little else.  Additionally, that information may not even be available for players not currently on the court.

The advancement in the complexity of basketball statistics in the last few years has been striking, and a basketball arena is definitely not the place to access all of that data.  An iphone sport app, however, is an excellent place to access said data.

Certainly fans of all sports do not choose to attend sporting events only to be staring at an electronic screen.  But when that electronic screen can lead to a richer understanding of the game than they have ever had before, that will lead to a more enjoyable game experience for fans everywhere.
