we are trying to find a new basketball system but we dont know what type of backboard to get acrylic or tempered glass

First off, you most likely already looking at polycarbonate versus acrylic. some people use these interchangably. they are different chemically. the problem with plastics is that they get brittle over time. even the polycarb with UV absorbers in it is going to weather. It is going to get old, it is going to break and crack.

the glass is far stronger than the plastic. as long as you don’t chip the corner, it will never break (with a basketball). This is the way to go.
