cleaning/fixing my old basketball hoop?

im cleaning my bball hoop and i have a 50 inch backboard and its plexi glass. its screwed up. ots been painted and kind of slightly melted because of some spray thing(dont ask). how should i make it look almost new(other than buying a new hoop)

I have had good success sanding plastics, using mineral spirits and 600- to 1500-grit wet-or-dry paper, then compounding with a 3M ebony compound and buffing machine, to get the clarity back…but it’s a lot of work.
