Mindstorms NXT 8547 Review (438)

LEGO Mindstorms NXT 2.0 Summary

The LEGO Mindstorms NXT lets you envision, build and program your own robot. However that’s not all.

As you become more experienced, you’ll discover to go far beyond the user’s guide, and as is the nature of Lego, you can brush off all the rules and go on to produce whatsoever you wish. With time your robots will go more sophisticated both in the way they look, and in the way they act – the things they can do. Some of the abilities will easily shock and astonish you.

You probably will not go on to make the next Robocop or iRobot, but with all the unlimited things you can do with the LEGO Mindstorms NXT, you’ll be interested and delighted for a lifetime. It’s kind of like that old classic Lego set that you might still have stored away. It’s always good fun when you take it back out and see what new things you can construct. The Mindstorms set will have a similar effect, but better – you’ll never put it away in the basement or cellar, it will always be kept where you can see it – ready to be picked off and played with again and again..

It’s a hefty cost tag for a Christmas present, however as a present you can go on using again and again into your old age, the Lego Mindstorms NXT completely lives up to the price tag.

Who Should You Get The Mindstorms NXT 8547 Set For

The Mindstorms set is good for anyone old enough to not swallow the parts and able to understand the basic functions of a computer. Making your first robot is easy when you follow the easy instructions in the guide book.

And ofcourse, anyone hearing the world ‘programming’ probably thinks it’s going to be complex, but it can be as easy as just a few clicks of the mouse on your computer.

Those who are younger can discover numerous ways to have fun with their robots, whereas the die-hard robotics fan can indulge himself in interlocking programs that can play naughts and crosses and even solve a Rubik’s cube.

What Does The LegoMindstorms Come With??

The Legos Mindstorm NXT comes with a total of six hundred and nineteen pieces. These include an assortment of connectors, wheels, rods, beams and sensors.

Underlying Constructing Units

Mindstorms has a different look from LEGO, due to its basic unit being a beam instead of the usual LEGO brick, producing a Meccano look. But unlike Meccano, you can simply snap the pieces together without having to use any tools.

Due to a huge number of pieces that look almost identical, you’ll perhaps be looking around at lot at first trying to find for the right unit. But after a little experience you’ll almost intuitively know what you’re looking for.

Motors x3

The motors are what make your robot move.

The Sensory Units

The sensory unit s are like the eyes and ears of the robot. The Mindstorms NXT 2.0 comes with…

1. A sensor that detects light, which gives your robot the ability to see different shades of light and even detect colors.

2. A sensor for kinesthetic input, that enables your robot to ‘feel.’ No I’m not talking about emotions, but rather about touch. Your robot can be triggered to carry out a programmed action when you or something/someone else touches it..

3. An audio sensor that is the ‘ear’ of the robot, allowing it to ‘hear’ different sounds.

4. An ultrasound sensory unit that makes use of echo-location, so your robot can determine how far away it is from an object such as a wall.

The NXT Intelligent Brick

This is your robot’s core, a tiny computer that processes data from the 4 different sensors and according to the programming you give it, orchestrates compound movements in your robots by controlling the 3 servo motors, whether this is through the robot proceeding forward, driving about on its wheels, streaming water/drinks into a mug…. the list goes on.

User Guide

Despite Mindstorms seeming so complex when you haven’t tried it, the Instruction Guidebook is brilliantly simple, with one-step-at-a-time instructions on how to make a shooter bot, robotic alligator, color sorting machine and a walking man-like robot as featured on the box.

When you’ve mastered these four models, you can then go on to experiment with innovative machines of your own choosing. You can also buy separate guides (yes, whole guides published just on the LEGO Mindstorms NXT ) that demonstrate how to build more complicated robots with far superior programming.

Be warned though, you may face some frustration from not having enough pieces to build absolutely anything you want. Fortunately the Lego Technique range uses the same series of beams, and you can always get a Lego Technique set if you need the parts. Lego was designed to fit together.

Where Can I Get It Cheapest?

Be careful, the new Mindstorms 2.0 already comes with a hefty price tag and you shouldn’t have to pay more than you already need to. Click here to see where you can get it for the best price.

Enjoy Bass Fishing In Florida

Bass fishing represents one of the most popular fishing sports practiced today. Its popularity has yielded a multi-billion dollar industry unto itself, aside from the business of other modes of sport fishing. There are boats on the market designed specifically for bass fishing. Clothes and gears are also very popular.

Freshwater sport fishing in Florida provided recreational opportunities for over 1.32 million people, over age 16, and generated an economic output of $2.0 billion in 2001. Aside from that, Florida freshwater recreational fishing generated 19,519 jobs with earnings of $484 million in 2001. Florida freshwater fishing provided 20.8 million angler days of recreation (92% resident) based on 14.5 million trips. (A trip is from the time someone leaves home until they return and may include many days; a day is defined by an activity on a specific day.)

Bass habitats include a variety of environments, from rivers, lakes, streams, and even ponds. Rivers provide one of the healthiest habitats, due to the highly oxygenated waters from the rapid current. In order to fish bass from rivers, it is best to seek out breaks in the current, perhaps from a fallen tree, a stump, or rocks. The fish that bass feed upon will normally school below a dam, thereby making these spots ideal for bass fishing.

There are at least 32 species of fish commonly caught in the numerous lakes, ponds, canals and rivers throughout Southwest Florida. The anglers pursuing the most popular of these freshwater game fish are locally referred to as either bass fisherman, “perch jerkers”, pan fisherman or catfishermen, depending upon the object of their pursuit.

The most common and popular of these are Largemouth Bass, Catfish, Panfish, Chain pickerel and Crappie.

Largemouth Bass without a doubt is the most sought after game fish in Florida. It is the main target of the majority of anglers. Many of these lure busting monsters in the 10 to 12 pound range are taken every year in local waters.

The yellow and brown bullhead, followed by the channel catfish, is the most abundant in the area. They are favored by sportsman for the delicious table fare that they provide. Also harvested commercially, mainly on Lake Okeechobee, and their tasty fillets are served as an “all you can eat” favorite in most area restaurants. But it is still the bass fish that promises the challenge of the sport.

Every freshwater river, canal, lake and pond in South West Florida is abundant with what is locally referred to as “panfish” for the thick tasty fillets they provide. The term actually covers a wide variety of pan sized fish in the sunfish family. These include, but are not limited to, the following: bluegill, bream, warmouth, and the most sought after, redeared sunfish, locally referred to as a “shellcracker” for its diet of aquatic snails. Another favorite is the exotic oscar, which has flourished in the hundreds of miles of canals in the area.

An angler needs only to arm themselves with a cane pole and a can of worms or crickets for guaranteed success in catching supper. However, most anglers opt for the ultra-light spinning outfits with tiny spinners and spoons, or the fly rod with popping bugs. Catches of fifty or more a day are common.

While not particularly sought after, the pickerel must still be considered a game fish for its savage attacks on the lures most commonly thrown by bass fisherman. They are fast, tackle busting acrobatic fighters. While edible, they are usually released due the many pesky little bones in their fillets.

Also locally called speckled perch or “specks” and considered as the favorite of the “perch jerkers” or crappie fisherman that pursue them. These quick striking fish fall for a variety of lures. They congregate in large schools and once located, provide the angler with plenty of action and a great fish fry.

There are innumerable techniques and types of tackle available to practice the sport of bass fishing. For a beginner, it is advised to gather some more basic tools to get started. Some suggestions point towards acquiring a 10-pound line, suitable for the average sizes and weights of this species. Also, it is suggested to start with artificial bait until the angler has a better understanding of the unique characteristics of the bass fish. The Spinnerbait is common artificial bait used by both amateur and seasoned anglers.

The catch and release method was first introduced in the 1950s. It was designed to reduce the rising costs of restocking hatchery-raised fish, and was normally used for fish not meant for consumption. Popular consensus does not consider bass as a food fish, and thus this technique is widely used.

Strange dream with a crawdad???

i had a dream i was walking into this filthy basketball gym (dimly lighted). when i saw a crawdad. at first i though it was a bug because it was walking so far from any body of water. then this girl (who does nothing in school is pity her life, which is actually pretty good, and try to bring any one who is happy around her down.) and as i was walking to the left side of the gym i see her thrown it into the air almost touching the two long poles connecting the goal to the extremely high ceiling. everyone is playing basketball on the other half of the court.
because it is dimly lighted, i cannot see the critter in the air. so instead i run hoping to aviod it landing on me. it barely hit my left hand, which was covering my ears just kinda ducking.

so whats this wierd dream mean????

I WOULD REALLY APRECIATE THOUROUGH ANSERS OR ANY BIT OF INFO THANX

The basketball gym could mean you were feeling athletic/are athletic.
The crawdad away from water may mean you feel out of place.
The girl who pities her life throwing the crawdad up and down may resemble you feel like someone is forcing you to do something (school, perhaps)
The dim lighting could mean you feel like someone is hiding from you.
The people playing basketball may mean that you want to be on a team doing something. Do you like working in teams?
Running from the crawdad could resemble running away from something you don’t know. Have you recently shied off a problem?

Hope that helped!

Why All Basketball Coaches Are Role Models

You hear professional athletes all the time denying the fact that they are role models for kids. I have two conflicting thoughts on this. First of all, I don’t see how professional basketball players can deny the fact that kids look up to them more so than other professionals and follow them closely. For this reason I think professional athletes have a responsibility to kids to try and be a good example. On the other hand though I think the public can put way too much of a microscope on them and expect unrealistic things from them. Most of them just want to play basketball and be left alone and you can’t blame them for that.

When it comes to coaches at the youth level all the way up to the college level there should be no denying or misunderstanding from coaches. You ARE a role model whether you like it or not. In most situations, players of today spend more time with their coaches than they do with their own parents. If you’re a coach it’s your responsibility to accept this fact, embrace it and commit to doing everything in your power to not only make your kids better basketball players but to also make them better human beings. The worst thing you can do to yourself and to the kids you coach is to deny that you can make a difference in these kid’s lives or refuse to accept the responsibility because all you did was agree to Coach Basketball and not act as a parent. The fact of the matter is you WILL influence your player’s lives in multiple ways, whether you like it or not. It’s going to happen because you are around them so much and because they look up to you so much. It’s up to you to either be a positive influence or a negative influence because having no influence is impossible.

Most coaches will accept the fact that they are a role model but take it too lightly. They think that all kids are independent thinkers and that there is no way the experiences they go through during a season will have a long-term influence on the kids they coach. This is very far from the truth. The truth is… kids look up to their coaches. To them you are on a pedastool and you can do no wrong. You were assigned to be their coach because you are an expert at the game of basketball and what you say is the truth. That’s how they look at you. There are certainly exceptions but even the kids that lack respect or don’t like you will be influenced by you. Sometimes it takes years before they realize it but one day they will either silently thank you or curse you for what kind of impact you had on their life. Most players value their experiences on the basketball court much more than they do in the classroom. They are more open to listening on the basketball floor because that time actually matters to them whereas when they are in the classroom they don’t absorb much because they don’t like being there.

Teach your kids respect

As kids become adults it’s important for them to have respect for themselves and for others. If they don’t they will likely struggle in the real world. They will struggle in finding a good job and they will find it difficult to get along with others. Be conscious of how you treat every player because this is where they will learn that respect. Be fair, be honest, be tough and be respectful.

Example: Letting a player get away with trash talking is sending the message to him that he is more important than the kids on the opposing team. If it goes unchecked this type of attitude will carry on and as an adult he will struggle in society.

Teach your kids accountability

The answer to a lot of our society’s problems right now is accountability. We live in a day and age where people don’t want to take responsibility for their actions. Our current economic condition is a direct correlation for people not wanting to be accountable for their decisions. When you aren’t accountable nothing gets fixed. All remedies are temporary and problems just get worse and worse. You aren’t doing your kids a favor if you aren’t teaching them accountability. They may like you for the time being but eventually they will be an adult and they will figure out what they missed out on and mark my words they will resent you for it.

Example: Setting team and individual goals is something all basketball teams should be doing. If you don’t re-visit your goals often and hold yourself accountable for not reaching goals you are teaching your kids that it’s o.k. to not meet your goals. You are teaching them that goals don’t really mean anything and that you don’t have to take them serious. How far can someone get in life with that type of attitude?

Teach your kids sacrifice

Nothing in life is free. If you want something you have to pay the price. Somewhere there is a quote about the fact that nothing comes without a cost is worth having. I love that quote because it is so true. As humans, we appreciate the things we acquire much more if we’ve had to work for it. When a person learns this simple lesson in life they are well on their way to success. I’m sure we’ve all seen adults who have grown up with a golden spoon in their mouth and struggle to accomplish anything on their own because of it. Make your kids work hard for any rewards you present to them.

Example: Instead of just saying yes to things your kids might want to do, make them work for it. If there’s a summer camp they want to attend or if they want to wear a certain style of uniform, come up with something they have to do to earn it.

Teach your kids discipline

Most things that are worth having aren’t easily acquired. There are times when your players will feel like giving up. The worst thing you can do is give them immediate comfort by letting them know it’s o.k. to quit. They need your support, they need positive reinforcement and they need you to be there for them. Send the message loud and clear that it’s very normal to struggle and that it’s o.k. but what’s not o.k. is quitting.

Example: Let’s say you have a player that has worked very hard and wants to get a scholarship but you happen to know that he still has a lot that needs to happen before that is realistic. You can either go to work helping him out or you can encourage him to lower his goals so that you don’t have to bother with it. I think it’s obvious what needs to happen in order to teach this player discipline.

Build character in your kids

It’s easy to see the value of character. People that have it succeed in life and people that don’t struggle. A person with character is honest, sincere and pure. They don’t try to act like something they are not and they recognize that other human beings are just as important as they are. If a person doesn’t have character they have a very difficult time finding happiness in their life and usually don’t make much of themselves. As a coach it’s important that you are honest in everything you do and that you treat all of your players with the respect they deserve.

Example: Letting one of your better players off the hook for academic problems because you want to win the big game teaches the player that winning is more important than being honest. Imagine living in a world where everyone believed that. It seems like such a small thing but the lessons learned from experiences like this carry with these kids on into adult-hood.

Build up the self-esteem of your kids

It’s hard for anyone to accomplish much if they don’t believe in themselves. I’m not a psychologist but I would dare bet that if you took 100 adults that have poor self-esteem you could trace their condition back to something that happened to them as a kid. I cannot under-estimate the importance of this enough. Something that you might see as silly and trivial could end up ruining a kid’s life for years and years to come and possibly for life. I’m not suggesting that you baby your players at all, what I’m suggesting is you treat your players with respect and do as much as you can to build up their self-esteem. Some players you might not need to spend much time with but others you may need to go out of your way to support them and help them see how valuable they are.

Example: After a loss you need to be careful about how you react. Give your players the understanding that losing is not accepted but it’s also not the end of the world. Everybody’s goes through a loss at one point or another. Just because you lose a game doesn’t mean you are an inferior person and can’t accomplish great things.

I also want to point out that even NBA players are influenced by their coaches. Certainly not to the extent that younger players are but to think that just because they are adults their coaches don’t have an impact on their lives is silly. There are players all the time that come out and publicly thank their coach for being such a positive influence in their life. It’s so important for you youth, Jr. High, High School and College coaches to realize that your actions are influencing how the kids you coach turn out. Of course kids are accountable for their own actions and make their own choices. I want to recognize that fact. I don’t believe that just because a kid ends up struggling in adult-hood that it’s his Basketball Coach’s fault. I’m just pointing out the reality that what you do and how you act as a coach, matters a great deal and can make a big difference in the player’s lives that you coach.

I hope Height doesn’t have a factor on if i make the team or not. Because i looked on the roster, and the shortest player they had was 5′8. Woww…. and i’m 5′5 snapz….. i love the game of basketball though.

Basketball Shot Clock

The basketball shot clock was a rule which was implemented in the 1950s to speed up the game and make it more exciting for the viewers. But what is the basketball shot clock and what are the basketball shot clock rules? Read on to learn more about the basketball shot clock history. More on basketball rules and regulations and how to play basketball.

Basketball Shot Clock History

The basketball shot clock was a clearly path breaking rule in basketball. In the 1950s a lot of teams, after assuming the lead would simply hold on to the ball or pass it to their players without making an attacking move. This led to the game hitting a standstill and very boring from the viewers point of view. And after quite a few games where the play was thus stifled the rule for the basketball shot clock was invented. Read on for more on facts about basketball.

Danny Biasone is largely credited with coming up with the idea for a basketball shot clock. The idea was that a shot would need to be taken every 24 seconds in NBAJERSEY. If the team has possession but fails to make an attacking move and take a shot at the basket, then they concede a foul. The basketball shot clock rule thus made the play much faster and more attacking. Read on for the basic rules and 5 positions of basketball and the history of basketball.

Basketball Shot Clock Rules

The basic rule for the shot clock in basketball is that there will be timer, set to 24 seconds. At the end of 24 seconds, if the team which has the possession doesn’t take a shot, then the possession will be passed to the other team. If the team does take a shot, then the clock is reset.

The key element in the basketball shot clock rule is the player control. It is important that the player of a team gain full control of the ball (as opposed to simply touching the ball) before the shot clock starts. The shot clock will start ticking once a player of a team is in control of the ball.

The Attempt
An attempt is a shot taken at the basket, which hits the rim. An attempt needs to be taken, i.e. the ball needs to leave the hands of the player before the alarm goes off on the basketball shot clock scoreboard sounding the end of the 24 seconds. If the shot touches the rim of the basket or goes through the basket, the shot is said to be an attempt. If the ball flies off in a different direction altogether or misses the basket, then it is not an attempt and once the clock has counted down the time, it results in a foul.

Inbound Pass
Since the shot clock is a clock for the team rather than a player, even after a player of one team has made a pass to his own player, the shot clock does not reset. So the team can continue passing the ball only for 24 seconds, after which they have to take a shot or concede the foul. If the opposition player picks up a loose ball after a pass, then the shot clock is restarted.

Shot Clock Timings
The shot clock timings differ based on the organization governing the game. Here are the shot clock timings for different organizations governing basketball. Organization Seconds NBA 24 seconds WNBA 24 seconds NCAA Men 35 seconds NCAA Women 30 seconds FIBA 24 seconds
So these were the basic rules governing the basketball shot clock. The basketball shot clock has been really instrumental in speeding up the game and making it more exciting.
Please help me with a short paragraph, thanks?

Please help me correct my grammar !

Kevin was looking at the alarm clock when he woke up. He can not believe that it is time at 8:45am. It is late for playing basketball with Jerry on Sunday morning at 8:30. He got in the rush to Basketball Court by bike quickly,.When he got there, he does not see Jerry. He maked a phone call to Jerry and the answer is “today is Saturday”

Step 1. Make sure all of your verbs are in the same tense. I am going to make them all past tense for you.
Step 2. abbreviations need punctuation
Step 3: make all pronouns correct case
Step 4: sentence three needs a major revision, dangling modifiers, repeated adverbs/verbs (rushed/quickly=same thing)
Step 5: parallelism with your a.m. (if you do it in one place you need to do it throughout your paragraph.
Sentence two’s prepositional phrases are still a little awkward, but I don’t want to revise it TOO much

Kevin looked at the alarm clock when he woke up. He could not believe that it was 8:45 a.m. He was late for playing basketball with Jerry on Sunday morning at 8:30 a.m. He rushed by bike to the basketball court. When he got there, he did not see Jerry. He made a phone call to Jerry and his friend said, “Today is Saturday.”

there this kid named E.A (initials) he and i really dont like each other, we just pretend but sice we are in the same team on basketball ,i have to deal with it. any way he talks trash behind my back and the only reason he started playing b-ball was because he tries to be better than me.one time i had played defense on him so bad he fell down and turned the ball over, i didnt make it a big deal because it wasnt he just tries to be better than me, the coach then said good d,then he got the ball and looked at coach to try to get his attention so he can try to make himself look good by making a shot. the coach then said why are you trying to impress me. just because james made you look bad. i would deal with it but he lives in my strret and has the nearve to play at my Basketball Goal every day. what should i do.
