cleaning/fixing my old basketball hoop?

im cleaning my bball hoop and i have a 50 inch backboard and its plexi glass. its screwed up. ots been painted and kind of slightly melted because of some spray thing(dont ask). how should i make it look almost new(other than buying a new hoop)

If it’s melted, chemically or otherwise, I would sand the entire thing with 220 paper, then 400 paper, then spray the entire thing with the Fusion paint made by Krylon, which fuses to plastics. I have had good success sanding plastics, using mineral spirits and 600- to 1500-grit wet-or-dry paper, then compounding with a 3M ebony compound and buffing machine, to get the clarity back…but it’s a lot of work.

Spalding 54 inch portable system problem?

I just ordered and assembled a Spalding 54 inch portable polycarbonate Backboard Basketball system. Everything is great, looks nice, and sturdy, but when I adjust the hoop, at the 10′ level (as indicated on the adjustment crank) the rim is about 11′ high, and at the lowest setting (7.5′), the rim is really 8.5′ high.

If the height meter is a sticker, just unpeel it and restick it in the correct place.

If that’s not the case you might have assembled it incorrectly. I’d go back through the installation instructions to make sure.

As a last resort, call Spalding for support.

Is this a good workout and exercise plan / routine to lose weight?

Keep in mind I am overweight and out of shape so I can’t run for very long without getting tired. I plan on running to an Outdoor Basketball Court and then running laps (walking when I can’t run until I catch my breath) for about 30-45minutes and then following up with shooting some hoops for a solid 45 minutes. Then I’ll run back home. Sometime later in the day I’ll do pushups/situps (Unsure on how many/number of sets) and lift medium-weight dumbbells. I’ll also cut down on the amount I eat and drink nothing but water as opposed to drinks like sodas.

Push ups and sit ups actually build muscle beneath the layers of fat rather than burning the fat itself. It’s important to do lots of cardio. Do something that will build your stamina so you can exercise more. I would suggest riding a stationary bike for 10 minutes a day and build it up to 20 minutes the second week and so on. Running, in my experience, isn’t good if you’re out of shape because you have so much extra weight on your ankles. Plus, if you’re in a humid area, you could cause more damage than reaping of benefits. It’s best to start out small and build up–walk for 30 minutes instead of run. Weight lifting also builds muscle so if you’re trying to lose weight rather than bulk up, always go for the lightest weights. In addition to cutting sodas try to limit your sodium and animal products for optimum energy. It sounds like you’re making a great effort and time will show how great you’re doing.

Basketball is also great because you get teamwork, camaraderie, and a competitive outlet—not to mention that it can be played with anywhere from one to 10 people in a game.

The point is that if you look at cardiovascular a little differently, you’ll realize that you can make it a lot more fun and less trying if you bring it back to the basics. Don’t become a hamster on a wheel. Compare in ground basketball goals and get a mini or even full court set up at your house to make it easy to play whenever you want.

Or once again, find a gym nearby with racquetball courts. Find a nice pool where you can go swimming a few nights a week. Keep your cardio fun, and supplement your weight training schedule with a cardio program that influences your life in more ways than one.

Is there a portable floor that you can put on a carpet?

My son got this new indoor basketball hoop that you can mount into the wall. He put it in his room which has carpet flooring. Is there some sort of portable mat that you can put on the carpet to make a basketball bounce?

With all due respect I want to assume your Son is young; and the setup isn’t “regulation”. I also believe you probably don’t have a 20 ft. ceiling in his room, nor might it even be half court size.

Certainly there are TEMP floors; such as those set on lawns for dancing during wedding receptions; etc. etc.

Why not just purchase Plywood sheets; that will fit or you can cut to fit?

Obviously a FUN thing for a kid to have in their room; but assuming most of the time they/he won’t be involved in a Full Court Press; but doing layups; Fouls hots; and strategizing fantasy moves against opponents Under the basket; I have to assume plywood WOULD be adequate.
