College Basketball: The Final Four

Students try out in college basketball recruiting for a spot in college basketball teams. Due to the immense popularity of basketball in the United States, college basketball has a considerable following among college and high school students alike.

The season-ending college basketball tournaments are known collectively and popularly as March Madness, as they are played in March.  The most popular championships are those of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), as well as various state high school associations.  The term Final Four refers to the last four teams remaining in the playoff tournament of the NCAA Men’s Division Basketball Championship. These are the champions of the tournament’s four regional brackets, and the only teams remaining on the tournament’s final weekend. (The term has been applied retroactively to include the last four teams in tournaments from earlier years, when only two brackets existed.)

There are some claim that the phrase “Final Four” was first used to describe the final games of Indiana’s annual high school basketball tournament. But the NCAA, which has a trademark on the term, says Final Four was originated by a Cleveland Plain Dealer sportswriter, Ed Chay, in an article that appeared in 1975 in the Official Collegiate Basketball Guide. The article stated that Marquette University “was one of the final four” in the 1974 tournament. The NCAA capitalized on the term in 1978, and turned it into a trademark several years later.

NCAA College Basketball: History of the Washington Huskies

The Washington Huskies field a Basketball Team that plays at the Division 1 level of college basketball. The team plays in the Pac-10 conference. Over the years the team has managed to field teams that have been solid, but they have never been quite what was hoped for by the fans.

The team has never won a National Championship in the history of the school. They have had success in the NCAA Tournament at times, but they have never been able to go past the Final Four portion of the NCAA Tournament.

Despite the fact that the team has never found the success on a national level that they hoped for, they have been a successful school. They have won many, many conference championships over the years to show their success.

The success really started in the 1920’s for the team. The team was easily the most dominant of all of the teams in their conference in that decade and was able to bring him the conference championship 4 times in that span.

That start in the 20’s really paved the way for even more success in the 30’s. The team started off the 30’s with a stretch of three straight conference championships from 1930-1932. Those three straight conference championships contributed to the 6 total championships that they had over that decade. That decade may have been the most successful decade for the team in their history.

Although people were winning conference and national championships before the NCAA Tournament came around, they weren’t as meaningful. The NCAA Tournament brings a certain excitement to basketball that was never found before it was created. The Huskies got their first taste of that excitement in the 1940’s.

In 1943 the team won the conference championship and managed to qualify for the NCAA tournament. This was the first of 15 appearances that the school has made in the tournament over the years. Unfortunately the team was not able to advance to the 2nd round of the tournament.

The 1950s brought tremendous success for the team. In 1951 and 1953 the team managed to qualify for the Elite Eight of the NCAA Tournament. In 1953 the team even managed to go all the way to the final four before they fell.

In 1984 the team found a ton of excitement in the tournament. The team had won the conference championship and went into the tournament with some momentum. They managed to advance not only past their first opponent, but their second as well. This left the team in the Sweet 16 for the first time in the history of the school.

The team has recently become even more successful. Over the last 15 years the team has managed to qualify for the NCAA Tournament 7 times. It seems like just about every time that the team makes the tournament they are able to make a run. Of those 7 appearances they have won at least one game in the tournament 5 times and they have advanced to the sweet sixteen 4 times. The last took place last season and left the team excited for what might come in 2011.

Exercises To Improve Your Vertical Leap

If you’re thinking that exercises to improve your vertical leap will help your Basketball Game – mainly slam dunking – you’re absolutely right.

One of the highest priorities for any basketball player is to improve his (or her) vertical leap. NBA players from Earl Boykins (5′-5″) to Yao Ming (7′-6″) use this great technique to score points, amaze fans and to have fun!

Of course, very few of us have a natural talent that allows us to leap into the air, seemingly defying gravity, and sink a basketball into a hoop. No, most of those with great vertical leaps have learned this skill through exercise, practice and dedication to the sport.

I have collected a few critical exercises that really can help you increase your vertical leap. In order for them to work, you must practice them regularly, without missing even a day or two. Why so strict? I’ve found that those who start finding excuses to avoid practice are usually not dedicated to the sport – they bring failure onto themselves by poor attitudes and lack of discipline. I want you to be successful – please work out with dedication – on a regular basis!

Warm Up!
Always, always warm up your body before you exercise. To some, this means stretching. I want you to go beyond just stretching – begin with a nice, steady aerobic exercise to get your body “into the groove.” Running, elliptical trainer, jumping rope – it doesn’t matter as long as your heart rate increases, and you become acclimated to physical activity.

10 – 20 minutes of warm up is all that’s needed. Any more, and you may become tired before the actual workout begins. You’ll have plenty of time for serious aerobic exercise – later. For now, you really need to concentrate on your jump-specific workout.

Exercises To Help Your Jump
For most things in life worth pursuing, you must learn to focus, or specialize. That’s why experts have honed in on several very specific exercises that are designed to allow you to jump higher – if you take them seriously and do the exercises.

Deep Knee Bends and Deep Knee Bend Jumps.
This is actually two exercises in one – the deep knee bends and the deep knee bend – jump.

For deep knee bends, you simply stand upright, making sure that your back is straight, then bend your knees to the point where your thighs are parallel to the floor. You may put your arms out in front to help your balance. Crouch down and rise back up in a slow motion. Repeat this exercise for 10-15 repetitions. You can add extra weight to this exercise as you get stronger.

To do deep knee bend jumps, start out like you’re doing a plain deep knee bend. Then, at the bottom of your crouch, leap vertically as explosively and strongly and as high as you possibly can. When you land, crouch back down and repeat. Do 10-15 repetitions.

Crunches
Crunches are much more effective than regular sit-ups. Why? Because crunches are much more focused on a smaller group of muscles, and are worked out much harder, and these muscles are being trained to perform in a much more “explosive” manner. Lie flat on your back on a hard floor (you can use a thin mat if you wish). Lock your feet under something immovable – couch, dresser, etc. Lace your fingers together (both hands) behind your head, and lift your upper body about 45 degrees off the floor, slowly, and then let yourself go flat. Repeat for 10 – 15 repetitions. Can you feel your stomach muscles tightening? That’s good, because if you can feel them, then you’re probably getting some benefit.

Calf Stretches
Stand straight on a level surface, with your face about about 12 to 18 inches from a wall. Then slowly stand up on your toes, using the wall for stability (if you need to). Repeat for 8 – 12 reps, 3 sets (do this exercise 8 – 15 times, rest a minute, then repeat – 2 more times).Do 30 to 50 repetitions for this simple but effective exercise.

For those who are dedicated and actually do the above exercises on a regular basis, you will definitely see your vertical leap improve. As most experts will tell you, gaining a vertical leaping skill like this will take time, practice and dedication. Improvements will not happen overnight. If you’re serious about your vertical leap and are serious about your exercise routine, I know that you’ll be successful.

Can anyone name this game?

Ok so i played this game about 10-12 years ago. Its on PC and well you have this blank workspace and a sidebar with lots of random stuff such as basketballs, moving walkways, animals, and lamps and other stuff and you drag and connect stuff and make something creative in the workplace and theres a start button which makes everything work as it really would um like everything starts obeying the principles of physics or something and you can make lots of different things happen. I like the ball moves on the moving walkway and walls vertically down and hits a switch that turns on a lamp o.0 I dont remember the name can anyone help me please? =(
