Ways to Score in a Basketball Game

There are different ways to score in a basketball game. Let us learn each of them:

Jump shot – is the most common shot made at the perimeter (or the place on the court that is relatively far from the basket), also known as set shot. This is done by getting the right height before throwing the ball to the basket. It is also essential to follow through with the ball. This is done by maintaining your form while the ball is still on its way to the basket. The following through is said to increase the chance of scoring. A jump shot is often worth 2 points.

Three-point shot – is a perimeter shot taken beyond the arc (both feet of the player must not step on the three-point line). The player should possess leg and knee power to generate enough height to release the ball 20 feet away from the basket. A three-point shot often gives the team a boost and adds excitement to the game.

Free throw – A free throw is given after the opponent has committed a personal foul or a technical foul. This is an unguarded shot taken in the free-throw lane and is worth 1 point.

Dunk – is one of the most exciting shots that can be made by a player. This is done by jumping high enough to get your hands on the rim while still holding the ball. Once you reach the right height, slam the ball and grab the rim. It adds more to the excitement.

Alley oop – is a pass and shoot sequence that involves great coordination between the passer and the receiver of the ball. The ball is thrown to a player in mid air who will also shoot the ball before he touches the ground.

Lay up – is the most common shot made inside the paint. This is also the easiest shot to make. You drive to the basket, take off to get the right elevation, and lay the ball directly to the rim or off the board with one hand. The non-shooting hand is used to protect the ball from the defender.

Hook shoot – is made popular by Kareem Abdul-Jabar. This shot is done by turning your body on the side while the head is still facing the basket. You will jump off with the non-shooting leg and toss to ball with one hand similar to laying up.

Scoring in a basketball game is important to win a game but don’t forget to play defense so that you prevent your opponent from scoring more than you do.

Painting a basketball net?

How much paint and what type of paint is required to paint a basketball pole of normal height? It is rusting, so i am going to sand it, and then paint it.
Do i need to use primer? If so any suggestions on what kind?

I wouldn’t use spray paint because first of all you have over spray to deal with. I don;t know how close your pole is to the house or other things but paint can carry quite a way with a little breeze. Also you want to get a good coat of paint on something like this. That will be harder to do with spray paint. Just sand it down and brush on a good coat of rustoleum paint. I doubt a pint would do it so it would probably be best to pick up a quart.

Hey man it’s great your interested in basketball, I’ve been playing all my life it’s a great sport I love playing it and watching it. Don’t buy a DVD or anything. If you really don’t know anything about it, go on youtube and watch some videos. It’s kind of hard to explain everything, but basically your trying to put the ball in the hoop. You can only dribble with 1 hand, and once you stop you can’t start again, you have to either pass or shoot it. You can’t make excessive contact with another player, if you do it will result in a foul. If that player is in the process of shooting, they will shoot 2 free throws. If not, they will inbound the ball, or if you go over 7 team fouls, you get to shoot free throws. I suggest watching basketball on TV. NBA and NCAA is the best, but NCAA is really good because the competition is better. Good luck man and don’t give up.

37 Activities To Do With Your Family On Your Front Porch

We often take for granted a part of our home that we pass by day in and day out. What part is that? It is your front porch. If you have a medium to large front porch, think of it as an extension of your home where you can spend time with your family. You might wonder what you could possibly do on your porch.

I found it easy to come up with a bunch of simple family activities that you could do on your porch with your son, daughter, spouse, mother, father, grandparent, neighbor or friend. Now, don’t laugh when you read this list. Some activities will be more appealing to you than others. Some might even bring back memories of when you were a kid.

Here are the first 37 things that came to my mind, but I did not stop there. I have many more coming in my next few articles. Some of these activities will work best if you have a small table on your porch. Keep in mind that the weather and your porch lighting play a factor in some of these activities.

So let’s get to it.

1. Play a game of checkers, chess, cards or any board game like scrabble or monopoly. All are fun front porch classics.
2. Read stories out loud to each other.
3. Listen to some mysteries on old-time radio when it’s dark outside.
4. Write birthday cards for the month ahead.
5. Work on a puzzle book together.
6. Read the newspaper with your honey.
7. Listen to an audio book together, maybe a chapter at a time.
8. Plant an herb garden to put on the ledge of your railing.
9. Make potholders from loops. Remember that as a kid?
10. Rock a baby on your porch rocker (you need a baby for this one!).
11. Learn a foreign language together.
12. Blow bubbles with a child. You can even make the bubble solution yourself.

Popular Retro Jordans Models of Sports Shoes

Basketball footwear has never been the same again, ever since the advent of the glorious Air Jordan shoes and the successive remakes of the old models known as Retro Jordans. Named after the legendary player Michael Jordan, the first pair was introduced to the market in 1985 by Nike and since then there has been no looking back as the shoe euphoria turned into a full-fledged fashion industry.

These shoes marked a new era where basketball shoes were concerned and the one responsible for crafting and designing the earliest pairs was Peter Moore. The original Air Jordan I had a combination of two colors such as the black/red model and it included a double set of laces to match the two colors of the shoe. These shoes became so popular that Nike had to create a sub division for managing everything to do with Air Jordan sneakers.

Ever since the first pair, 23 models have been released to the market and the various models are successively numbered in order to signify the sequence of the release. How tall will I be?

I am very active, I participate in Judo and basketball. I weigh 170 lbs, but not of fat, it’s muscle. I am 16.5 years old, and I am 5′8 (with nike shoes on). My mother is 5′5 and my father is 5′6. But the weird thing is they both are the shortest in their families. Both sides of their family average 6′0. Anyways, I know genetics plays the major role in all of this, but approximately, what do you think my height will be. Keep in mind men tend to stop growing at the age of 21 or so I’ve heard. I will remain active and do the best I can, but I want to become at least 6′0 or taller. Is this possible? I know I need more veggies in my diet because I’m all meat for now, but I’m changing that. well since you 16.5 years old and your 5ft 8in with shoes on that means your 5ft 7in without shoes on you will probably reach 5ft 11in at the most maybe 6ft if your lucky thats if you grow another 1 inch

Learn to jump higher and amaze your friends

The great news for all of us average athletes is that you can learn to jump higher. A Lebron James or Kobe Bryant slam dunk is one of sport’s great moments. The power, height and grace they get from their leap is truly amazing. Watching a skinny white dude who’s 5 foot 10 make a similar move is even more amazing. Increasing vertical jump height is certainly possible.

The key to achieving impressive gains is to train hard, train smart and train regularly. Find an effective program from your coach, athletic trainer, from a textbook or from the internet. Make sure that it is intense; most gains will be made with a series of short sharp sessions. Ensure that you won’t be jump training everyday.

Cross-training, working on other skills or fitness requirements are an ideal way to break things up. Rest is also key, our bodies develop best when they have a chance to recover and build new muscle mass during down time.

The 4 key stages in a vertical jump training program are:

Strength training, using traditional weights especially the squat. This will develop the muscles essential for jumping. Studies have found a direct correlation between vertical height and squat strength

Dynamic weight training; start by concentrating on explosive movements, especially the jump squat. Power comes from strength used at speed. The essential combination for getting good height improvements

Plyometrics gets the body used to speed and converting that to height. Exercises like box jumps and tuck jumps, when done in very intense sessions will lead to big gains.

Fourthly is jumping form. Working on using your body in the most efficient manner to transfer power from your large leg muscles, the quadriceps, buttocks and hamstrings through the lower legs, ankles and feet aided by the upper body is key to achieving your aims. Nothing will improve your jumping like practicing jumping.

Form is probably the most important component but is also the one that is most overlooked. Many pro athletes have an inefficient jumping style that wastes energy and reduces vertical jumping height. There are Youtube videos available that can give you a head start on what a good jump looks like

A training program designed to Get a higher vertical will increase your vertical jump height if followed properly and undertaken regularly. Find one that you like and get out there and get jumping.

How can i Jump higher?

Ok i have asked this so many times before but people don’t give me answers that aid me – I’m 14 years old i want to increase my vertical jump by 5 inches(basketball). I weigh just under 10st but im 6ft and have a slim build. Could anyone suggest exercises or drills i could use to increase my jump. I can touch the rim with ease when i try to dunk i hit the front of the rim. I just need more explosion how can i train my quads -detailed answers will be rewarded HELP

try practicing jumping regularly. There’s an exercise where you sit on the ground with your legs wide open (almost split). Put your hands behind your back, lean back slightly and raise your legs, keep it there for at least ten seconds. If you still don’t understand, ask a cheerleader. This is a drill cheerleaders use, but it’s very hard and it trains your leg muscles.
