Quick Hitting Basketball Offense: the 1-4 High Set

Quick Hitting Basketball Offense: The 1-4 High Set

What is a “Quick Hitter”?

A “quick hitter,” as coaches commonly describe it, is simply a set play designed to score quickly using a team’s best players. The most popular “quick hitters” come from either a box set or a 1-4 high set. A 1-4 set has the PG in the middle of the court with the other 4 players placed free throw line extended on both wings and on both elbows. This is why it is called a 1-4 high set.

The Advantages of a 1-4 High Set?

•	Spacing – weakside help is eliminated because all players are starting away from the basket

•	Space is created under the basket area because the players are moved off the baseline

•	Allows a quick UCLA cut to the rim for quick scoring by the PG

•	Allows for easy implementation into special situations

•	Many different sets can disguised from this initial alignment

•	The point guard has immediate pressure relief at either high post

•	Distorts zone defenses

•	Very good to run on dead ball situations

•	The coach has control of the attack (ie. Ball screen, post up, 3 point shot, etc.)

•	Allows for easy wing pick and roll action with built-in screening angles from the players on the elbows

The Disadvantages of a 1-4 High Set?

•	Can be pressured out of this set if wing denial and high post denials are good

•	Can be forced right or left and weakside help created by forcing the point guard to one side of the court

•	Even though the set starts in a 1-4 high set, it rarely stays that way

•	Players have to remember the different play calls

•	Eliminates space for the point guard to create an entry pass

•	Practice spent on teaching substitutes the patterns of the 1-4 high set and their role

•	Very difficult to transition into from a fast break (tough to get to spots)

•	Easier to run and jump from the weakside wing because of limited operational space for the point guard

As a coach, you must decide on your offensive philosophy. There are many programs that run exclusively set offensive plays and there are others that run pure motion offense. In high school, it can generally be a good idea to have set plays because the talent pool can be thin. As Hubie Brown would argue, are you getting enough shots for your two best players in the best shooting area? Set plays such as the 1-4 high, are the easiest way to do that. However, there are other coaches, such as Don Meyer, that ask the question, “Would you rather have a better player in March, or a new play?” While this is a great philosophy question, we have to try and do what is best for our program and its talent base. Regardless of what you choose to do, make sure you believe in it.

Prolific Basketball Shooting Review – Discover How to Become a Number one Basketball Scorer

Prolific basketball shooting is a program that would serve as a guide if you want to learn how to Shoot Basketball. For basketball players to be successful, shooting should be your best asset. Aside from a lot of practice, you need a partner that would teach you step by step on how to shoot the ball. Prolific Shooting Training was created by Taylor Allan. For years, he taught basketball players to go the next level. This is done by doing some unconventional methods of shooting the ball. His system will teach a player to make shots that will awestruck even those tough defenders.

Plan to join the team and be the leader in points, then you need to avail of the Prolific shooting package. When you order the product, you will get a dvd and manual on prolific shooting. You would also get The Lost Tapes and Gym Swipe File DVD. There is also a youth program for those who are just beginning to learn to go under the hoops. There is also an audio about Prolific Shooting Coaching Call. If you want to master scoring from free throw line, then you can learn from DVD and manual.

Of course, you don’t want to stop from just shooting; the package would include Unstoppable Scoring Moves DVD and manual that would make you the star of the court. Aside from the basic package, you can also avail of the ELITE Edition Components. This would include Daily Drills Sequence. It has a dvd and poster version. There is also a dvd and manual so you can avoid breaking your ankle. You can also enjoy the Secret 7 Basketball Training manual and the one month membership to the Elite coaching group. You can get this without paying extra.

The price of the program is about $97 but you need to watch out for discounts. If you want to avail of the Elite Program, it would only cost about $29.95 every month after the 30 days free trial. Prolific shooting system guarantees that you will become a good shooter after 16 weeks of engaging in the program. There is a two month money back guarantee so you can be able to see if it really works. If you need a good shooting advice then this program will give the thing that you need. When you see the videos, ideas and techniques, you will conclude that Taylor Allen knows the ball. There is nothing more comprehensive than this program.

How to shoot a basketball like the pros

The main goal in any Basketball Game is to out score your competition

However unlike football where you have a relatively large target, the Basketball Hoop does not give much margin for error.

This thus places a premium on accuracy, and good accuracy is a by product of solid technique.

Critical to your success is the mastery of the fundamental technique.

If you start out with the right technique and form, then with the right drills and plenty of practice you will become a ?thorn? in the opposition?s side.

So lets work through the following steps which will give you the maximum chance of becoming a proficient shooter.

Step #1 Flex Your Knees. This is a power move that stores energy in your body that will later transfer to the basketball. Visualize yourself standing in a brace position whereby you are expecting to receive a pass when stationary.

This will lead you to naturally flex your knees and achieve a balanced position with your feet shoulder width apart.

Step #2 Grip the ball with the fingers of your shooting hand

Many beginner have the palm of their hand on the ball this will destroy your shooting ability. You need to grip the ball with just the finger tips of your shooting hand. Your elbow should be positioned perpendicular to the ball.

Step #3 Support the side of the ball with your off hand

Your off hand must support the side of the ball. This is essential for guidance purposes. Fix your eyes on the front of the rim and see the shot you are about to play in your minds eye.

Visualize the ball travelling through the air and falling through the net.

Step #4 Raise the ball over your head in one smooth motion

You need to raise the ball over your head in one smooth motion, forming 90 degree angles between your arm, elbow and wrist. This is perfect technique.

Step 5# Shoot from the ground up

Consider the shooting process as a chain reaction or a Mexican wave commencing from the ground up.

Feel the kinetic energy rise up through you as you extend your knees, it flows up as you extend your arm and snap your wrist sending the ball on its desired flight path.

Step 6# Follow Through It is important that you let the momentum carry you through to a full follow through.

A shoot involves a chain of events that commences with energy stored in your flexed knees transferring to your arm and into the ball to expel it towards the net. Your supporting hand is for guidance purposes only.

Basketballers come in all different shapes and sizes but most good players will adopt the basic fundamental technique I have just described.

Follow these tips to the letter and your shooting will improve dramatically with plenty of practice.

Basketball is all about how you move. Actually making a basket is not that difficult of a skill to master and if that was all basketball was about then it would be a simple game. However, what makes basketball exciting are all the different moves.

There are four moves that you have to master in order to ever master the game. These four moves together will give you the skills you need to be a great player.

Move #1: Dribble

Dribbling is the way you bounce the ball down the court on your own. There are many regulations regarding dribbling. It is very important to know and understand the rules regarding dribbling.

Dribbling is a skill you must be able to do efficiently. When you are not a good dribbler the opponent may be able to easily take the ball from you or otherwise knock it lose.

You also have to be able to move efficiently when dribbling so you are not running into people on the court when you are dribbling the ball.

Move #2: Rebound

Rebounding is the move made after a basket has been made or attempted. Being able to rebound means you can get control of the ball. You need to be able to rebound a missed shot so your team gets the point. If you miss the rebound then the other team can steal the ball and you lose the chance to score.

Move #3: Pass

Passing is another way to get the ball down the court and the only way to get the ball to the other players on your team. There are a variety of different passes and you should learn all of them.

Passing has to be efficient and accurate. A bad pass usually means a lost ball and losing the ball means losing a chance to score.

Move #4: Block

Blocking is an important move for both defense and offense. Every player has to know how to block opposing players. They are either going to be blocking against scoring or blocking to allow their own player down the court.

Good blocking is essential to scoring because without blocking a player can not get close enough to score. Players should practice blocking in a variety of situations.

These four moves are all important to the game. Without one of them a game is lost. Each player has to be able to efficiently pull off each move on the court.

Good practice and good coaching will help players to become efficient in each move, but ultimately it is the player’s drive and dedication that will allow him or her to master each move and become the best player they can be. With a team of players who are dedicated and who have mastered these moves, winning is in their reach each and every time they play. Besides winning, having these skills makes players feel good about themselves and that goes a long way towards making a team that is fun to be a part of.

What are the physics behind certain basketball shots/moves?

I am doing an essay and I am trying to figure out why the skills [in basketball] are performed in that manner.
For example- (I describe how to do a lay-up), then say why you would do it that way instead of any other way.
and How does the bodies’ movement affect the performance of a specific skill?

NBA 11 psp game

I have to say that I really like the direction that Sony has taken the PSP versions of their NBA games. As opposed to just being ports of the PS2 games, the NBA franchise continues to differentiate itself and mark itself as the premier b-ball game for the PSP. While the first NBA game was really lackluster on the PSP, the series has made great strides in improving itself, and I applaud Sony for paying so much attention to the PSP titles.

NBA 11 psp game download

The aspect that separates the PSP version of NBA 08 from its PS2 and PS3 brothers is the different shooting mechanic present. As opposed to the shot-meter found in the console versions, the handheld game has a halo that varies between three color ranges – red, yellow, green. The halo glows around the ball as you prepare to release it. Clearly, a red halo means it’s a poor shot, yellow is an average shot, and green is a perfect shot. Now, even though the visual is different, the principles between both mechanics are the same.

You can’t expect to always time your shots to achieve a green halo – it won’t happen. In fact, you’ll see mostly orange and yellow, as the system takes into account number of factors which ultimately decide the type of shot you’ll make. Don’t fatigue your players by always sprinting with them; this will affect your shot. Furthermore, if the defense around you is heavy, it will also affect your shot, as will difficulty and tension.

Gameplay is particularly solid, with players always on the move and making logical decisions on their own. You’ll often see the A.I. come around to setup a pick, stay on the move looking for an opening, attempt to intercept a poor pass, block a shot from going in, scurry for a rebound, and so on. A.I. is definitely a step above other sports game for the PSP. Controlling the ball works surprisingly well, as the layout remains largely the same. With no right analog stick to maneuver, crossovers and spins are utilized with the Square and Triangle buttons, keeping all shots mapped to the Circle button. Players will make the proper decisions in what kind of shots they attempt based on how far away you are from the net, and how thick the defense is. For a PSP effort, NBA 08 is definitely some solid basketball.

If that wasn’t enough, there’s a whole ton of gameplay modes to scour through. The Conquest Mode is back in full force as the core mode of NBA 08 (even though the box glorifies the Block Party mode). Its concept is basically street-ball fused with turn-based strategy elements. And your goal is to select an NBA team, and have it dominate every city in the country. There’s also a list or rules and regulations twists, such as no fouls or any clock violations, in addition to other things that the game will mention before you start a conquest. Believe me, this mode is fantastic fun.

Of course there’s the standard season mode, which also allows you to manage your team by controlling rosters with player trades, and free agent listings. Or you can choose to head straight into the playoffs. When you want some downtime, you can divert your attention to the Block Party Mode which consists of the All-Star Weekend (All-Star Game, Skills Challenge, 3-Point Contest), Carnival, and minigames. Carnival features a number of basketball-themed carnival games such as Big Shooter, Shootin’ Bricks, Pinball, and more. Then there’s the actual Minigames mode, featuring more content to have fun with, such as Horse, Dodgeball, Own the Court and more. Lastly, NBA 08 is online compatible for two player matches via infrastructure, so feel free to take your game online.

Because NBA 08 is a PSP game, don’t expect it to look extremely good. And while I understand that this is a PSP game, I still don’t think there’s an excuse to only have player physiques vary by height and skin color. Up close replays will demonstrate acceptable facial detail, but it’s downhill for the players from there on. All of the athletes basically share the same body type, with the only variable being height and skin color (as mentioned, already). To add to that, all of the players have the same still-stance, which irks me a bit. But, fortunately, the game maintains a smooth image with a quick framerate. There’s also some nice lighting work, as player models cast shadows and the floorboard displays nice reflections of the players.

Audio is also a rather weak component of NBA 08, as the commentary is pretty bland, even for the PSP’s standards. It’s strictly play-by-play, with Mark Jackson throwing a quip here and there, but, again, it’s nothing remotely pleasing to listen to. And when crowds aren’t nearly loud enough, which is apparent when plugging the PSP Slim into a TV.

The most important thing to consider here is that NBA 08 is a really good Basketball Game for the PSP. It may feel a bit simplistic, but it still plays well. There’s a ton of modes to choose from, and so the replay value greatly increases thanks to that. It’s visually generic, as player details could stand to see some improvement, but it’s an acceptable offering overall. If you’re a PSP owner and looking for a basketball sim for your handheld, NBA 08 is precisely it.

i agree with the jordan videos, and watch kobe videos as well. these two players are the most complete, as far as being able to do anything on the court. what seperates kobe and mj from all others, is their work ethic and their footwork. study film of these two and go out and put in the work. you should see drastic improvements if you do these things mentioned.

More Fantasy Basketball Tips To Follow When It Comes The Season Games

You already have your fantasy basketball draft and you are wondering what’s the best thing to do next? Well, here are more advice you can follow when the NBA games is on season and you want to boost your fantasy basketball draft. These fantasy basketball tips are results of our research from the works of professional basketball journalists and from successful fantasy basketball managers.

Here’s the list

More Fantasy Basketball Tips To Follow During NBA Season # 1 Do not stress about the draft you have you can always cure the choices you have made. Fantasy basketball is an enjoyable hobby not a stressful one.

More Fantasy Basketball Tips To Follow During NBA Season # 2 If you already made a fantasy basketball draft but as you see your list you have this gut feel that you can do better, well act on it fast. If your guts tells you to change your original draft because it will let you win more then do it. Act fast when you want to change your fantasy basketball draft!

More Fantasy Basketball Tips To Follow During NBA Season # 3 Look at the free agents available. These free agents are your ticket in changing your original line-up. Pick up a free agent if you really need to do so!

More Fantasy Basketball Tips To Follow During NBA Season # 4 If you do not find a good free agent to revamp to your fantasy basketball draft pick you can always trade. There might be a fantasy basketball manager out there who needs your weak player and who can replace it with a NBA player that can boost your fantasy Basketball Team’s performance. Learn how to haggle and trade it might be the reason why you propel to the top of the league.

More Fantasy Basketball Tips To Follow During NBA Season # 5 Always double check (check 5 times if you need to) when you replace your original fantasy basketball draft with free agents or trades. You do not want to give away or lose players who are valuable to your team. You also do want to have holes in your teams this includes players in all position and the necessary back-ups.

More Fantasy Basketball Tips To Follow During NBA Season # 6 The only way to be the one on top of your fantasy Basketball League is to always monitor the games during NBA season. Knowledege is power in fantasy basketball as much as it is anywhere else in the scheme of things.

More Fantasy Basketball Tips To Follow During NBA Season # 7 Free agents should be monitored because they can develop and blossom in the middle of the season. There are so many free agents who have made their mark in the NBA in the middle of game season. These agents can affect your fantasy basketball league so watch out for them!

Fantasy Basketball Tips During NBA Season # 6 Monitor free agents of the NBA, they can rise on top (like many NBA examples) and affect your fantasy basketball league in a critical way.

Fantasy Basketball Tips During NBA Season # 7 Always keep an eye on the free agents you can recruit these agents and make your team better. If you see free agent NBA players blossoming don’t hesitate to grab them. A great fantasy manager will see the potential of the player and grab him while no one else has seen the player’s power.

2) If you really want to win you are going to have to stay on top of things throughout the season. There are always critically important free agents that rise to the top from out of nowhere. Always keep your eyes open for them. The tough thing with the NBA season is it is long and not fixed to certain days (like just Sundays for pro football) so fantasy NBA becomes a labor of love, or just a competitive drive to win your league.

3) Don’t be afraid to trade. Trade players while they are hot and go for the players you have a feeling about, because the tide will continue to change throughout the season. The most successful fantasy managers will talk often with other people in the league about prospective trades. Find out who they may want. You will find that they sometimes want the guy you really want to get rid of. In the words of a two time league champion, don’t try to pawn off what you don’t like about your team, “find out what the other player wants and find a way to give it to them”. To put this in another way, if you have a 40 point (fantasy value) player that another guy wants, you might be able to get 42 points worth of value from them in the trade. The champ went on to say “your wasting your time” trying to sell the bad stuff on your team to someone else, you need to “listen” to what the other person wants. Go up and down both your rosters and share who you like and don’t like. And then maybe just store the information in your head and use it (take adv. of it) a couple weeks later when a guy that he likes starts getting hot and you think its not going to continue. That’s how you sell high. Also, don’t always try for the big blockbuster, or dream scenarios of trades. Just look for incremental improvements.

4) Check box scores every night if possible. Or, at the very least, scan a bunch of them once a week. This is where you will find the real nuggets of information that can make the difference for you. In assessing the prospects of players rising or falling, points won’t always tell you whats really going on. Look at shot attempts. Is a certain player not shooting the ball as many times as he used to? His points scored may still be looking good for a game or two, but a developing trend behind the scenes may be apparent. On the other hand, the coach may start giving the player the green light. He may score just 12 points one night and no one else in your league thinks anything of it. But if you see he is shooting the ball 15 or 20 times a game, you can pick him up before he has that breakout game. Minutes played is also another critically important stat that is overlooked. Also, don’t just check that they got the minutes and shots, find out why they got the shots and minutes. There may be another guy that is hurt or got benched. Is it a one day coaches decision, or the start of something? This will also help you in working trades.

5) Keep focused and keep trying to improve. The downside for some fantasy NBA’ers is that the season is so long, but that’s also a positive too. Worst in the first couple weeks to top-tier in your league by the end can happen. Never give up.

6) Have fun. Only one manager is going to win the league. Use the league to improve your skills, stay in touch with friends, and/or just for an excuse to watch a few extra games.

Finding a hobby? Not particularly good at anything and busy with school, but just want to do something else?

Im heaps busy with school and all that, but I want something to do on the weekends.. I enjoy soccer and basketball, but dont have time to participate. Anything, random??

Photography – Anyone can do it! There is an editing site called www.picnik.com that has a good (free) basic package.

Music – Learn to play an instrument or even learn to sing!

Art – You don”t have to be an amazing artist to have fun painting or drawing. Take me for example, I’m terrible at it but I LOVE it! Art can also include pottery and stuff, too.

Bead work – I love making bracelets out of beads. I personally like metal and glass beads, there more sophisticated and look better, but plastic beads are cheaper. Every one of the is different and your possibilities are pretty much endless.

Scrap-booking – I’m sure you have lots of pictures lying around (or still on your camera). Buy a cheap Scrap book, colorful paper, glue, maybe some cute stickers, and get to cutting! Scrap-booking can be SO much fun. And the end product is always awesome. It’s something you can keep forever and relive all of your stories when your older. (Scrap books make great gifts, too.)

Reading – I think this qualifies as a hobby, doesn’t it?

Crochet – This may sound a little old fashioned, but I think its fun! (I’m 21, by the way.) Again, your possibilities are endless. You can make afghans, hats, headbands, and so much more. Or you can try knitting. I personally think its harder, but if your looking for a bit more of a challenge try it out! (I haven’t figured it out yet.)

Khaki Shorts

Khaki shorts are cool and fashionable. It is extremely easy to wash and wear them. The shorts are fine for outdoors but keep the length in mind. Khaki shorts are modeled for three things; safari’s, suburban barbeques and office picnics. The only problem you may have is her growing out of them. If you are overly short, wearing baggy long shorts will cover too much leg and make you look shorter. Nevertheless, the wearer should still be mindful of a several minor stuff when wearing these essentially all-around shorts. For instance, the legs of the shorts should not go below the knees, otherwise the man wearing them will seem shorter in comparison with he actually is.

Khaki shorts are also really popular and go well with the school dress code. However, beware of short denim shorts. These shorts are a bit more formal than athletic, so keep that in mind. Khaki shorts are not so hot whereas Basketball Shorts are downright skeevy. In fact, unless you’re running or swimming, shorts in general should be verboten. Khaki shorts are one of the greatest staples in a man’s summer wardrobe but beware, baggy shorts with giant pockets and a long rise is NOT what is hot this summer. Look for a slimmer cut, trouser pattern short that hits an inch or two above the knee. Khaki shorts are a pleasant pair of formal shorts. When paired with polo shirts and loafers you’ll appear casual and relaxed even provided that you’re only wearing shorts.

Color is a personal choice. Colored khaki shorts are a style that never seems to fade. It is believed shorts were first being worn back in the late 1800s and they have really evolved since that time. really light khaki pants and shorts are good, and you could also find linen pants that are pretty fashionable. Make sure that whatever you pick to wear, it’s really breathable.

clothing designers are doing their best to come up with new styles and colors that fit the seasons of the New Year. A clothing item that is gaining much popularity are khaki shorts for men and women. Real design done by real people is totally the best. I adore seeing my fellow fashionista’s styles expressed through their outfit posts, inspirational photos and fun tips.

Finally, you need a casual pair to walk around downtown, hike along the coastline, or just for lounging around at the local pub. Swim trunks usually aren’t considerably functional as they offer little protection and rarely have secure pockets. If you plan on hiking during your trip or any other kind of day-long excursions which involve walking, then a pair of comfortable Khaki shorts is a definite must for your suitcase. While swim trunks can be comfortable, they offer no pockets for the valuables you want to keep with you (such as your money, passport, cell phone, and so on), making them insufficient for walking about.

Is their any women out their who like briefs on men?

I wear boxers, boxerbriefs and occasionally briefs.Personally, I would wear briefs more but it seems that the girls really don’t them. You can really tell I’m wearing briefs when i workout with basketball shorts on escpecially the mesh kind and when I dress up with some with tighter Dress pants (Khaki’s) Is there any girls out there who actually like guys in briefs?
What would you think about a guy if you knew he wore briefs like at the gym, dress pants or even saw him pantsed?
i.e. not plain white ones though. Details please

i like briefs personally! my boyfriend refuses to wear underware all together but i actually think you can get some very nice briefs…

i think it is more attractive to see a guy wearing suitable and comfortable clothes compared to someone who is constantly putting his hands down his trousers to rearange himself and his boxers….its the same with girls, why wear a underwear that you end up having to pull out ur butt cos its given u a wedgy?! NOT SEXY!!!

dont conform…if u like briefs go for it! being ur own person and not scared of what people think is cool dude!

There are all kind of dribbling drills out there, but what you really want to focus on depends on what level you are at and what you want to improve on, but to be a good ball handler you must be proficient at all these different drills.

Tennis ball Drills

You can do any of these drills with a tennis ball in your other hand. So while you are dribbling toss the tennis ball up and snatch it out of the air. If you are crossing over, just switch hands with the tennis ball as well. This drill really stretches yourself and improves your gave immensely.

how to use the STANDING CALF RAISE machine to the best of my advantage?

i wanna start using the machine in order to make my calves really strong that they will help me jump higher(basketball)… like how many reps should i do? and sets at that?.should the weight be enough to tire me out at 10 reps? or at 20?.. please help!

The word on calf exercises is that because the job they do comes into play every time you take a step it will be necessary to do more reps to get them trained to their limit. This is to say that if you use a weight that you can only do 10 times it will probably be so heavy that you can’t do the exercise correctly. I have found (for me anyway) that I can do some sets of really heavy calf raises then as I start to lose form I will drop some of the weight and continue on. I might even drop the weight 3 – 4 times until my legs feel like they are going to burst into flame. Be careful not you over train. Work into it at a smart pace. It’s awful to try to walk around the next day with your legs screaming at you every step you take.
